1. What is What Colour?

What Colour is a simple program that tells you the red, green, and blue values
for any colour on your screen. This is very useful if you're creating Web pages
or drawing and want to use a colour you can see on your screen but can't reproduce it.

To use What Colour, press and hold down the primary mouse button (usually the
left button) and move the cursor around your screen (remember to keep holding
down the mouse button while you're moving the mouse). When you find the colour
you want, release the mouse button. After you release the mouse button, What
Colour will tell you the red, green, and blue components of the colour
you picked. You can use these values (called RGB values in some programs) in any
program that lets you choose a colour by specifying the red, green, and blue
values.

2. How to install and uninstall What Colour

To install What Colour, simply run SETUP.EXE and follow the instructions.
No files are installed in your Windows folder. Once you have installed
What Colour, you have the option of later uninstalling it.

To uninstall What Colour, use the Add/Remove Programs icon in Control
Panel. If the uninstall program indicates that all components were not
removed, this will usually be because you have saved files in the program
folder. If this is the case, you can use the instructions below to remove
What Colour manually.

To uninstall What Colour manually, delete the folder in which you
installed What Colour (by default
C:\Program Files\Kaptech\What Colour) and also delete the registry
key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Kaptech\What Colour".

3. System requirements

The table below describes the system requirements for What Colour. You
may find that you do not need a computer with a specification that matches
these requirements.

Component Requirement or Recommendation
----------------- -------------------------------------------------------------
Operating system: Windows NT 4 (or higher) Windows 95 (or higher)
Software: COMCTL32.DLL (version 4.70 or later) in Windows system folder
(This comes with IE4 or later. If you don't have the correct
version of COMCTL32.DLL, you can get it from the Microsoft
Web site. Unfortunately, Microsoft do not let you distribute
the file on its own since there is an installation program
                     for it.)

4. Troubleshooting

Q. When I hold the mouse button down the cursor changes to a hand but
   What Colour doesn't do anything.

A. This problem may occur on PCs that don't have COMCTL32.DLL version
   4.70 or later.
