Introduction |
Welcome to the "Shadow of
power" walkthrough. For over a year people have been able to
download SOP, and I was often asked for a complete walkthrough,
but my answer was always "no, too much work". Well, this is my gift for
you because it has now been downloaded more than 10,000 times! It
includes a detailed walkthrough, some special information (like
cheats) and guides to find all weapons, spells, crystals and gems.
Things you must (or at least really should) do are blue, things
you don't have to do are red. The beginning is written for
"beginners" - quite logical I think. In later passages
I'm not writing in as much detail because I don't wanna hurt you
with things like "there's a coin in the upper left corner of
the desert map above the bazaar". I hope it will help you to
discover the secrets you missed and maybe you'll notice that the
game is more complex than you thought. Please keep in mind that
you have unlimited lives and that you can start right where you
died when you think you have been killed unfair.

The Screen |
The play area is bordered by -
as you may guess - a border. This border holds all the important
information: in the upper left corner there is a box with the
icon of the activated spell (or a cross, if you haven't got a
spell selected) along with a green bar for your magic energy. If
it's filled, you have 80 points of magic energy (called mana).
The number above the gold shows you how much gold you have. Next
to it you can see the activated weapon (a dagger at first) and
right behind it the activated item (Pringles to start with). Then
come the hearts, representing your life (three of them at first).
You can also see your hitpoints, if you prefer this more
RPG-style variant by pressing F7 (press again to deactivate).
On the left hand side your arrows will appear as soon as you have any and on the right hand side you can activate a framecounter with F5 (don't bother, the game is slow ;-). The red line shows how fast it should be to run smoothly (15), the green line shows what speed the game slows itself down to (so it doesn't go too fast). The bottom of the border is used to show test messages. Hint: You can always display your current quest here by pressing F1. |
Chapter #1 (The Medicine Quest) |
"Small village" Right after watching the intro scene you should take the money bag and walk down to the house in the lower middle of the village. If you watch your enviroment carefully you will notice a man with golden armor running away. Talk to the crying girl. She will tell you that her grandfather is very ill (you can see him with closed eyes in his bed). Only the medicine that has been stolen by an evil witch lord can heal him. This is your first quest. You can see a red arrow in the upper left corner that shows you the way. Later its also useful to use the map (automapping) by pressing the TAB key. If you read the sign you'll notice what we think about "useful hints" that are often to find in the first village of RPGs. Hanjo, the man with the mobile phone, wonīt tell you useful things. Robert, the guy with the sword, will tell you that the land is attacked by monsters and he wants to guard the village against them. Clemens, the guy with the gold, wants you to fight against Lukas, but this isnīt useful yet. In the house in the upper left-hand corner you can talk to Jörg, but he wonīt tell you anything interesting either!. The fish is completely useless, a joke that should remind you of the useless fish in "Monkey Island 1". Thereīs a lot of stuff like this in "Shadow of power"... "The way to the tower" Go to the map above. It's one of the few maps without any enemies, secrets or items. Go left and youīll see a house. Itīs the house of Merlin (me?), the wizard. Go in and take as much as you can carry: a bomb, 25 gold (which is in the chest) and the teleporter key (Telewhat? Iīll explain this later when you can use it). Don't buy the violet bottle (+10 magic). The spell will be too expensive yet... Go right three times. Fight the sniffies. With your dagger you will need two hits for them. Donīt forget: they can shoot with stones, but you can block them with your shield if they come from the front. The sniffies look and act a little bit like the most common enemy in Zelda I. If there's something in the sniffies you don't need right now (like a heart when you have already three), don't take it: itīll wait there for you. Even if you are in the last level you can go back and fetch it! The game saves automatically your state and the current map when you move from one screen into another. Go to the right. You will see a little puzzle, designed to show you how block-moving puzzles in SOP work. Itīs easy: Dark blocks canīt be moved, others can be moved by walking against them (for a second). You canīt move them out of the area with the special floor. I would kill all enemies first, because they can hurt you while you do the puzzle. On the sceenshot you can see how to move them to get the item in the middle. Itīs a green potion that can refill all your mana. Donīt use it yet: it is worth a lot later and you canīt use your mana without a spell. Every spell you will find will fill your mana anyway! Also keep in mind that Holger drinks in "real time" and can be attacked while he is drinking (unlike the "Diablo" heroes that can drink 5 potions in 2 seconds - I wonder how they do that). Go right. A message appears: Go into the tower and get the medicine from the evil witch lord. Okay. But first you have to kill your first intelligent enemy: a goblin. Itīs not hard because goblins arenīt very strong, but it will act much more intelligent than the sniffies do. It's scared of you, and you'll see what I mean. Show your back to it and it will attack you, so turn at the last moment and attack it. Go upstairs into the tower. The sign in front of it isnīt very encouraging... "Dungeon 1: The tower" A new enemy! Kill the blobs (which are very easy to destroy although they need three hits) and go... You missed something: Thereīs a crack in the wall, I marked it in the screenshot. Now its time to use the bomb (come back later with another bomb if you don't do it right the first time). Go near to the crack, place the bomb with space bar (after choosing it from your inventory with left shift) then go away and wait. Boooom!! Go through the wall and you have found the first secret room! Collect the blue crystal (Iīll explain their use later, but it might be interesting to know that there is one in every dungeon) and the gold bag. Go back into the tower and walk upstairs. Fight the blob, collect the money and the heart (if you need it) and press the button at the floor. The wall will open and you can go upstairs. Kill the blob. Open the door - but be careful with the spark that flies along the wall! Open the chest (50 gold), kill the other blobs and go upstairs... "Boss: The witch lord" The witch lord is more complex than the enemies you have battled yet. Heīs bigger, he can beam himself around and he can shoot dangerous fireballs. I think the best way to defeat him is to kill him from above or to attack his back. Heīs the first boss and he shouldnīt be too hard for you. After defeating him you get a new heart container (you now have four), a very nice spell (fireball) and the medicine! A lot of new stuff. When going down to leave the room you can see a button: press it to activate the mystic altar. The sign tells you what to do: collect the four magic gems to get the wisdom of the greatest mages - sounds great, doesnīt it? As so often, Iīll explain this later (when you have them). "Back to the girl" The teleporter-pentagram now works and beams you in front of the tower. Go back the way you came here (you can use the map or follow the red arrow if you don't remember the way). Of course you can go a different way and earn some "experience" by killing some enemies and get their items. When you give the medicine to the girl (it must be selected when you talk to her), she gives you a golden ring. Talk to her once again - just for fun...itīs nearly always funny what the people have to tell you when you talk to them for the second time! The grandfather is now healed. Talk to him and go on with |
Chapter #2 (The Herb Quest) |
"Do some things" I don't wanna annoy you with every single violet mana bottle hidden behind a tree. But in general there's always something in every map! If you don't see anything at first, take a closer look. Here are the most importent items that you can collect in the area arround the village. Locations are always from the "small village". - Go right and collect all "twibbles". Twibbles are funny living items, pink ones are female and blue ones are male. In the house of the farmer you'll find twibble food. Give it to the mom and dad twibbles and they will "make" a new child (for sex scenes download "Suds Skins" ;-). You canīt take mom and dad with you. The twibbles are very useful, but Iīll explain this later... - If you want a healing potion (+3 hearts) you can go left and arround the trees throu the water. Be very careful, if you go into deep water you will die! Later when you can destroy bushes its easier to go there. If you want it now, do it on own risk! >- If you want some "holy water", useful to (really) kill some of the undead creatures like zombies that will soon cross your path go down twice. - If you want a treasure with 50 gold go right and down. Be careful! There are a lot of goblins which guard it. - If you go left four times and up once you can find a bomb in the upper left corner. - If you want the magic armor spell you can go to the fairy lake (right thrice and then down). Every good Zelda-style game should have a fairy lake... ;-) And what do you think you can do with the waterfall? What a secret! You can go straight through it! Of couse there's a fairy that can heal you as often as you wish and a new spell that increases your armor. Great, huh? - If you want another bomb you can go right four times and down three times and solve the puzzle (basically you have to try to move the blocks as far away from the middle as possible to get to the bomb). Youīll also have to fight against blue sniffys which are a lot harder to defeat than red ones. Donīt think all enemies appear in different colors: its just the sniffies because they were in these colors in Zelda I. - Not useful but nice: Thereīs a girl thatīs playing harp at the river when you walk left and two times down. Thereīs also a (really) useless stick in her map. - Thereīs a "wall with door" at 14/9 (read the stuff below to know what this numbers mean). Well, this is art. Do I need to say more? Okay, at first it was a mistake and then we decided it's art :-). - Maybe you'll also find the pixie with its pot full of gold. Well, Iīll explain this later... "The way through the elvish forest and a little cheat" The grandfather of the girl marked just the entrance to the elvish woods on your map, not the village! Now its up to you to find it. Sorry, I forgot this is the walkthrough... you can spend an hour walking through the woods, but in fact the right way is very short: go right, go down and go right again. Here we are. The entrance to the village isnīt particularly easy to see - even the sign in front of it is brown like the ground. By the way, thereīs a new enemy in the woods: snakes. If you want to search the woods, here are the most important things. But first weīll talk about a cheat. A cheat? Not really. A command. Enter the console by pressing the PAUSE key. Enter _INFO and press the ENTER key. The console will show you your position at the map: X,Y,Z. Z? Yes, in castles and towers you can go upstairs, in caves and dungeons downstairs, and so on. Z should normally be 1. We are interested in X and Y. When I'm talking about where something is Iīll write for example 18/10, elvish village. I mean the X,Y map position that you can detect with this command. Iīll also add the Z position if the Z position isnīt 1 (like 18/10/0, below the elvish village). Here are the hot places in the woods: - 18/8, a treasure with 25 gold - 18/7, a coin (hehe) and a bomb in the upper right. - 17/7, the secret dwarf path. Well, I know this is a poor Commander Keen-style secret ;-). But it means a lot of gold for you... go up straight throu the rock behind the sign (search a little) and search your way through the invisible path until you find a treasure with at least 100 gold ;-). Of course I didnīt expect you to find this, you have enough gold to buy everything you need without it. "Elvish village" First: Youīll listen to the Zelda I theme melody. I know this and I wanted this. I have a lot of other MIDIs but this game is a hommage to Zelda so things like this (and to have another example the trees that are a better version of Zelda III trees) are good. I think the other graphics show that its possible for me to draw trees that have nothing to do with Zeldaīs trees. Okay. Enter the first house (the sign shows herb shop). Take the twibbe food, the gold in the chest (25) and talk to the girl. She tells you that her poor mother was banished like a witch and so she fears to sell herbs in her herb shop. You get a broom that you should bring to her mother. Weīll keep this in mind and enter the next house (no, not McDo yet), the sign shows "Christianīs Fashion Store" (by the way, in reality Christian is Holgerīs big brother). You have to buy the leather armor (100 gold). Go downstairs. Take the twibble food but don't open the chest (trap). Go back upstairs and leave the house. Be careful not to buy one of the other items (well, the shoes are very nice because you can walk faster (for some mana), but the Link cap is totally useless although it looks very funny to use it). Now we are going to enter the McDo restaurant. Weīll find one of this silly flags and a Big Mac. Eat it. Holger wonīt like it... If you talk to the service man you'll notice that he speaks something you probably canīt understand. Well, if you are from Russia or can speak Russian maybe you can ;-). If you were ever in a McDo restaurant in Germany you'll surely know what I mean... Now there's a very interesting thing: the elvish village is bigger than a lot of people think. Follow the path and enter the map above to see the rest f the village. Right now there arenīt things to do here, but later this will be importent. If you like you can go right and take a look at the beach now - but there's nothing special. "The smith, the witch and the swamp" Leave the forest (I know it's easier said than done, but you can leave it in the left-middle of map 17/9) and go down to map 14/13. Enter the dwarven smithy and buy the short sword (200 gold, does 3 damage instead of the 2 the dagger did). Take the bomb. Talk to the smith twice, then leave the smithy and go to 15/14. Youīll notice that this weapon is already much more powerful than the old one, especially because it's got a higher reach. Collect the skull and use it (a great taste for the lovers of Shakespeare's Hamlet ;-). Go left and enter the "Rumor Monger" (as the sign shows...). Thereīs a very "special person" in this house. The mom of the herb shop girl tells you as much as you want to know about the game (in fact, you can ask her 35 times and sheīll tell you always different things) - but only half of the information she "has heard" is true or useful! Select the broom item from your inventory and give it to her. Sheīll be very happy about it and tell you your next quest: get herb from the high plateau and bring it to her. By the way: You canīt leave this map if you don't have an armor because Holger is scared of the swamp. There are two new enemies: the bats are easy to kill, but the zombies will awake a few seconds after you killed them if you didnīt use holy water before you killed them. I would try to escape them, they are very stupid. There are a few nice things in the swamp: - The Apogee grave (with the unbeliveable sound ;-)) at 17/15 - 10 gold in 19/15 - A secret passage! In 19/14, go arround the plataue rocks at the sea and you'll find some holy water in the map above. Go through the swamp to map 18/14. Youīll notice the there's again the man with the golden armor that runs away when you come closer. The sign shows "Caution! Hungry goblins!" (like a sign in "Secret of Mana", by the way). The goblin guard in front of the cave is slightly corrupt. He says that he wants something made of gold to let you in. Give him the golden ring from the crying girl; now you can enter the caves... "Dungeon 2: Goblin cave" Kill the goblins (there are a lot of them) and collect the 30 gold in the lower right of the map. Go up. Kill the goblins. Collect 10 gold. Go right. Open the chest (100 gold) and collect the damaged chainmail. Itīs already a lot of treasure, but there's more: a secret room is above the acid lake. Bomb through the wall and you'll find a blue crystal (and a chest with 20 gold) in the room above! Go back to the last room and left (to map 18/13/0). Go up. Kill the goblins and collect 70 gold (50 in a chest, 10 and two 5s). Prepare for the boss (maybe you should activate a healing potion or a spell that you want to use). Go left. "Boss: The goblin king" I think heīs difficult without the short sword or the fireball. With one of this attacks you should be able to beat him. Try to kill him fast, because every few seconds two goblins appear to help him. After defeating him you can collect the heart container and a golden key. All goblins in this room will be destroyed. Use the key to open the door and take the big key with the horns and the gold in the chest (100). Go upstairs. "The plateau" Now you're on the plateau. Go right. Youīll find a glittering sword in a stone. If you try to get it from above you'll see Holger trying to get it out - without a hope. He also wonīt try it again. Whatīs the "Holger-method" to get this sword of the stone? Use a bomb near by the stone. Boooom!! The stone breaks, but so does the sword...take the broken sword. Go down. Youīll find the teleporter complex. Thereīs a tree with a sign that tells you something about it. Go to the middle of the complex, open the door and take the new spell. Itīs the teleporter spell that can beam you right here from any place on the isle! On your journey you'll find keys for all five teleporters which can beam you to the place where you found the key (or nearby). The keys are hidden in the most important villages. You should already have one, the small village key. Use it to open the door to the teleporter that will bring you to small village. Hint: The edge of each key is marked for the place where the door is that you can open with it. Go right. Youīll see an interesting person: Markus, a techo junkie who dances to the music of a gettoblaster in a very special way. Heīll tell you that you should try his herb. Take it and bring it back to the witch. In the map above this one you can also find a "secret" path that brings you to the beach to the right of the elvish village. The witch will make three different potions of the herbs: a healing potion (25 gold), a magic potion (50 gold) and a special potion (75 gold) that can recover both (this may remind you on Zelda III again). I would buy all of them, but of course you don't have to. |
Chapter #3 (The Labyrinth of the Minotaur Quest) |
"Visit the smith and the elvish village" Leave the house and go back to the smith (you can find him easily with your map). Let him repair the chain mail and buy the repaired one (50 gold) and let him repair the broken sword. Buy it if you can ;-). Itīll cost 5000 gold, Iīll explain you later how to get this gold much easier than by killing blobs and hoping there will be some coins coming out of them. Go to the elvish village (it's on your map, too). Buy the winged shoes. Go up. Buy the twibble food (three times) and leave the map. Enter the map again and the twibble food will be there again! This way you can buy twibble food until you have nine (nine is the maximum you can have of each type of item). Go (or run) to the twibble farm. The winged shoes can be activated or deactivated with the space key and will cost mana all the time you use them (but not very much). I would run. Feed the twibble mom and dad. Collect the twibbles. Now its time to go to the jungle! "The jungle secret" The jungle contains a lot of (more or less) hidden items: A bomb, a magic potion and some gold. But the only really importent secret is this one: Go to map (13/10). This is a little tricky to explain. Thereīs a small space between a stone (left) and a pink plant (right), nearly in the middle of the down part of the map. Go down on this path and you'll see a button in the next map. Press it and stairs appear with a little earthquake. Go back into the map above and down at a different point to enter the cave downstairs... The "Indiana Jones" cave (you may have noticed the Indiana Jones theme music) is one of my favorite places: When you follow the path the lights will go on by themselfs (swiffff...) and after some walking you have to go up. Get the gold from the chest (50) and the 10 extra gold, then activate the shoes. RUN across the bridge. Arrows will follow you - but with the shoes they have no chance. Of course its possible without shoes as well. Collect the ruby. Itīs one of the valuable gems you need for the altar in the tower of the witch lord! Go down. The most beautiful trap in the game awaits you (hehe...). RUN back the way to the exit, a "rolling stone" will follow you. Itīs possible to escape it without the shoes as well, but its not very easy. Deactivate the shoes (remember that you have to select them as the active item first). Go upstairs. "Dungeon 3: The labyrinth of the minotaur" The witch told you to go here if you want to become a real hero. Itīs entrance is left from the dwarven smith (there's a signpost as well). Open the door with the "big key". Kill the enemies, collect a bomb and go left. The map shows you the way through the maze. Be careful with the many arrow traps. There are two new enemies: Orcs, which are powerful and will always try to attack you directly, and skeletons, which will act like goblins but cannot really die without holy water. The labyrinth is already much harder than the goblin caves! - In map 12/14 is some kind of boss, a fire elemental that can shot with... well, fire. I think the easiest way to defeat it is the magic armor spell, or just don't fight it and try to get the mace without a battle. By the way: Lava is similar to water except that you get damage when you stand to long on it. You can go across the lava without a risk (if you have more than one heart...). The mace is a great weapon, it does 4 damage and can destroy bushed, little trees, barrels, etc. You should really get it! - There are two healing potions and two other bombs. One of each is behind a block puzzle, but they are so easy I don't think I have to explain them. "Boss: The minotaur" When you enter the upper left map of the lab you'll see the man in the golden armor talking to the minotaur and running away when you come closer. The minotaur will attack you directly. Itīs not easy to defeat him, and an earthquake that happens every few seconds and costs you one heart doesn't make it better. I would use the magic armor spell and attack him from below. After defeating him you'll get the earthquake spell (which is great), a heart container and by smashing the barrel in the lower right corner of the map you can now enter a secret passage where you'll find another blue crystal! "The desert bazaar and what those twibbles are good for" Go left. Now you'll enter the desert. In the desert the game runs very smooth (in fact it will use its slow-down routine to a maximum of 19.9 frames because it would run too fast without it). Youīll find blue sniffies, skeletons and snakes here, as well as a new enemy: the mummy. Mummies are undead creatures like the skeletons, they are basically like stronger zombies. Go to map 10/14. Hereīs the desert bazaar. The woman (Sarah) will buy your twibbles (25 gold for male, 20 for female. Women arenīt worth as much as men in desert countries ;-). Sell them to her and buy the worthless pearls. Collect the holy water and the teleporter key. Now you should notice something very interesting: By buying twibble food (there's unlimited of it in the elvish village) for 10 gold, going to the twibble farm and exchange it for twibbles and selling these twibbles here at the desert bazaar you can make as many gold as you wish! Itīs also possible to short the ways a lot by using the teleport spell. You don't have to do this, but if youīre ever in need of money you CAN do this as often as you wish. "Twibble-dealing" I would like you to do so right now. The reason? You have to go to the places you need to go for this job anyway. First, go to the elvish village. Buy up to 9 twibble foods and "gar" the "garden" of the house left to it. In the house you'll find some "cool sunglasses", a lot of garbage and an elf (Andreas). Take the sunglasses. Above the house you can find a telephone with someone who wants the "yellow pages" - very mystic (should remind you on the red and blue pages in MYST)... Go to the twibble farm and make some twibbles. Collect them and go "back to the jungle". On your way to the twibble farm you can get a bomb in map 16/11 by destroying some bushes and pressing a button. "Bimbo village (or what?)" Enter the bimbo village (14/11) and talk to the "people" that live there. Itīs funny to talk to all of them, but you just need to talk to two: the bimbo chief and the one with the pearls. Give your worthless pearls to the "pearl bimbo" that loves "expessive" pearls and you'll get a new weapon in exchange! The boomerang! Itīs very cool, it can fetch items for you and kill enemies that are far away (does only 4 damage like the mace). The bimbo chief will give you his magic rain staff in exchange for the sunglasses (he wants sun protection instead of the rain staff because he hates the sun). Heīll look very...different with the sun glasses. The rain will suddenly stop. Now its your turn: You can make it rain or stop wherever you wish (it will snow if it's cold where you are). Keep in mind that rain will make the game run a little bit slower (not much, but I wouldnīt like you to make rain everywhere). In the map left of the bimbo village you can get 50 gold (in a chest) by destroying a bush to get there. "Finally: The pixie - and the pot full of gold" I guess a lot of people have been looking forward to this: how the hell can you catch the pixie (at position 11/9) at get its pot full of gold? Answer: no chance. BUT: You can use the boomerang to catch the pot full of gold! Clever, huh? Anyway, after that the pixie wonīt beam itself anymore - and it wonīt like you... Have you ever tried to use magic in a map where a more powerful mage or a magical place is? Try it! Youīll turn into a rabbit for a few seconds... With the boomerang you can get a special (blue) potion when you throw it over the river at the house of Merlin, the wizard. There you can buy the "invisibility spell" and unlimited mana (its always there again when you enter the map). The invisibility spell looks cool and let your enemies all act like blobs, because they canīt detect your position. But I think it doesnīt work with bosses. |
Chapter #4 (The Mushroom Quest) |
"The desert" First we should take a closer look at the desert. Yes, there's a lot of nothing, but there are still some very interesting places: - 9/10: The mystic tower - here you'll find a tower in which you have to put your blue crystals into some special blocks. Iīll explain what will happen here when you have them all. - 7/10: The Eastpak skeleton - you may know this from the commercials...take the backpak (Holger does...) and open (SPACE) it. Youīll find a can of the energy drink Red Bull (energy drink). Drink it and you'll get the very useful flying spell! - 6/8: The entrance to the old mines - you'll need to go here after you cleaned up the storm castle! - 7/12: The Punica Oasis - here you'll get a "limo" and the original "Punica drink". You use it later, but its not really importent. - 5/8: Bug-dad - the desert village. First you should use the rain staff to make the stupid guy in front of the houses happy. Heīll give you something very valueable, one of the four lost gems you need for the altar in the tower of the witch lord. In the house of the...well, interesting "Master of silence" you'll find the teleporter key for this village. The man with the emerald (another one of the four gems!) will give it to you for the "pot full of gold". Now you have already three! The rings he sells are very useful, too. The green one can convert life into magic, the red one magic into life. I would buy both, you can never know what you may need more. The carpet seller should sell carpets but the harddisk on which we already finished his house with lots of beautiful carpets was deleted by a virus (yes, things like this really happen...) and when we restored our backup we didnīt feel the wish to do it again. In the deleted version a Genie also existed that lived in "Aladdinīs magic oil-lamp" and that should hurt you with annoying comments like "Itīs very dark here... in the lamp" all the time until you "use" the lamp and shake it and shout "CLOSE-YOUR-STUPID-MOUTH". A magic carpet ride was also planned, I'm sorry that thoses things don't exist... "The way to the medusa cave" Now its time to do the quest of the desert bazaar woman and find the "mushroom of happiness" that only grows in the medusa cave. What an awful job, to risk your life for a mushroom... its not easy to become a hero ;-). Anyway, I would beam myself with the teleporter spell and one of the teleporters to the desert bazaar. Go up until you are at map 10/9. Before you enter the cave, there's a little secret: You can go right around it and will find a chest with 50 gold in the map above. I would prefer the mace in the caves, but maybe you'll like the boomerang better. "Dungeon 4: The medusa cave" The medusa caves are THE place to run in a circle. Iīve seen players running arround in a circle for two hours, others seem to know the way right from the start and need only 15 minutes to complete it. With this map you'll be one of the second type. ![]() Letīs talk about the special (marked with a green number) places: 1. Hereīs a button. Donīt press it or a Chaos warrior will appear! They are a new kind of enemies you probably wonīt like... Itīs very fast and strong and will attack you directly like an orc. Later in this dungeon you will have to fight against them: One is in front of the bow (I would try to escape him, two are in room 5. 2. A new enemy: the bomb goblin. Theyīll try to use bombs to hurt you, but the good thing about them is they may leave a bomb when you kill them. Be careful: You canīt be sure if its an activated bomb or an item if you don't wait a few seconds and look if it explodes or not! 3. Snake generator: This map will spawn unlimited (up to 15 at one time) snakes, so be careful. You can kill snakes here to fill up your hearts. Donīt forget to get the bow in the room left to this one! And also keep in mind that arrows canīt be used against all enemies! Snakes are too small, skelettons have too many holes etc. Itīs still a great weapon! 4. A very easy puzzle: Just press the button in the middle. But hey, there's a little secret as well: If you go straight down after pressing the button you'll find a secret drawfn path where you can collect a healing potion and 5 arrows! 5. Two chaos warriors. This may be a hard room for you. I would activate the invisibility spell before you enter the room and kill them from distance with your new bow. Keep in mind that you'll need some arrows for the boss. "Boss: Medusa" The Medusa shots with snakes that began to live when they touch a wall. Attack her with the bow, this is the easiest way to destroy her. After defeating her you'll get her head, the mushroom, some gold and another heart container! Go back to room five and open the block passage by pressing the button and you'll be out of this cave in just a few seconds! Back at the desert bazaar you'll get the storm castle key for the mushroom. |
Chapter #5 (The Storm Castle Quest) |
"Visit the storm castle" Goto map 3/14. If you are low at bombs, there is one in the map left of this one. Enter the storm castle with the key you have from the desert bazaar woman. Now the fun begins... ;-) While you often hear in games and movies: "A lot of people went here but they never come back" this seems to be true for the storm castle. Itīs the first really difficult dungeon in "Shadow of Power". Off we go, letīs start our adventure! (What a silly sentence...) ![]() Right from the beginning youīll be attacked by lots of orcs. Thereīs also a chaos warrior in the first map, and a new kind of enemies: wizards. They can beam themselves like the witch lord and they shot with a magic sonic spell that canīt be blocked by your little shild (it even goes throu walls!). Orcs arenīt very dangerous when they come all from one direction, so try to bring you into a good position. To kill chaos warriors you can use bombs (only one hit but itīs not easy) or a bow. Invisibility and flying spell are very helpful, too. Search tons for hearts and mana. Here we go with the hot places: LEVEL I: 1. Here youīll find 25 gold in a chest (if you solve a simple block puzzle) and youīll see something special: a bridge. Whatīs so special about a bridge you may ask. Well, the game wasnīt designed for two levels in one level... we used a trick to make this bridge work like a bridge: There are unvisible buttons in front of the bridge (and behind it) that set "Uppest"-Objects that look like the middle of a bridge into itīs middle when you activate them. When you walk on the bridge there are other unvisible buttons that turn the bridge into simple floor. If you are interested into stuff like this, try this cheat in the PAUSE console: _DEBUG It will show you all hidden objects (like invisible buttons) - so youīll always notice whatīs really going on... You wonīt believe how many hidden objects are in every map to make SOP work... 2. RUN! If you donīt want to fight for your life, run throu the throne room to the right. To give you a reason: there are two Chaos Warriors... 3. Here you have to go left (under the bridge) and then open the door with the rusty key and walk down over the bridge. In the map below this one youīll find a mana potion and if you go left and left youīll find 100 gold in a chest! After collecting the gold go down on the brigde and collect the "big silver key". Go back into room 3 and go down and down to reach the room where you get the "big silver key" and use the stairs in the lower right of the map to go downstairs to the castleīs dungeon... LEVEL 0: 6: In this room youīll find a new enemy: the "Dark One". This nasty enemies are some kind of stronger goblins (maybe you know them from "Diablo"). If you collect the mana left of the door, the mysterious man with the golden armor will appear and disappear... 7. In this map youīll find something new: holes. Donīt fall into them, they can be very deep (if you fall into one youīll see what I mean...). Use the teleporter to beam yourself above the hole. On the other side there are two cracks - that can be opened with a bomb - in the wall: The first on will bring you to a secret room with a mana potion, the other one MUST be opened to solve the game! Thatīs why I added a bomb and an arrow in front of it in one of the updates. Go through it and enter the next map. 8. Open the secret crack with a bomb, but you canīt really enter the room behind it yet. Be careful with the holes! A wrong step and youīll be dead. In this map youīll also find something totally new: moving platforms. I think they are selfexplaining. In fact we only added them because Zelda III has them in the last palace. It was very hard to integrate them in the engine because it wasnīt planned from beginning... just for couriousity you can use the _DEBUG cheat to see how many hidden objects are needed for one moving platform... 9.Nothing really importent, but the FASS is a trap with a bomb that explodes. There are also some more moving platforms. 10. Now well come to something I like very much: the mysterious box. Go over the bridge to see it - but Holger wonīt go as close as you want him to... More about this later! 11. In this room youīll start to hear voices. Not because you have become mad by playing "Shadow of Power", the enemies locked in a big cell will talk to you! They will say things like: "We are your friends!" - and of course you wonīt trust them. As a matter of fact you have to open the cell to reach the teleporter that beams you in the map above where you can collect the "big golden key" you need to go to Level II... I always open the cell (by pressing the button in front of it), use a holywater and two earthquakes. This should kill nearly all of the nasty zombies! After youīve got the golden key you can use another teleporter to go to the main hall of the storm castle. Even if it has no number because this is not importent to solve the game the room above 11 has a nice detail: Thereīs a GITTER on the ground and when you come close to it hands will reach out of it and youīll hear the voices of the prisoners... an ugly feeling. LEVEL I: 4. Here you have to fight a chos warrior (use bow or invisibility) and some orcs and wizards. There are two cracks in the walls of the rooms at the bottom of the map, to open the left one you need to move a kight armor by pressing against it from below (or above). In each rooms is round about 30 gold. 5. The third kight armor can be moved! Thereīs a crack behind it - open it with a bomb and youīll find a some mana, a healing potion and 50 gold in a chest! Map 5 is also the place to use the "big golden key" and go upstairs. LEVEL II: In LEVEL II wizards are the dominating enemies. Lots of people donīt know that the spell "invisibility" is very powerful and die because they think fireball is the only spell thatīs useful in battles. Invisibility does, for example, that enemies donīt shoot at all! They donīt have a target... Itīs also good to know that thereīs often something (like a heart) behind the SAULEN you will find nearly anywhere in LEVEL II. Itīs also the place were I reached 1000 gold in my test game. Normally, without twibble dealing and finding all secrets, you should have 1000 after you completed the storm castle, but itīs also possible to have it even before you enter it for the first time. Whatīs so special about 1000? You can (and should!) buy the elvish bow for it! It does 10(!) damage and youīll automatically get silver arrows which look much nicer than the old ones ;-). More comes soon! |
